It’s been a busy several months and I’m a negligent blogger. First, some updates…

For those of you lovely people who have asked me about the follow up to Mistress of My Fate, I’m currently hard at work on it. The French Lesson, which picks up where Mistress of My Fate leaves off, is set between Paris and Northern France, just as the French Revolution begins to turn bloody. Without giving you too many spoliers, this book is slightly darker than Mistress of My Fate, as Henrietta finds herself entangled with some real historical figures – Grace Dalrymple Elliott (a Scottish woman with a tattered reputation living in Paris), the Duke d’Orleans (also known as Philippe Egalite, the so-called ‘Godfather of the French Revolution’) and his enigmatic mistress, Agnes de Buffon. The French Lesson should be arriving on UK bookshelves in early summer 2013.

As for US bookshelves – Mistress of My Fate is scheduled for publication on the 8th of January, 2013. Interestingly enough, there is now talk of Turkish language version of the book…

When not writing I’ve been making appearances at literary festivals (Cheltenham coming up in October) and popping up on TV, generally speaking about my usual topics; London history, 17th & 18th century women, smut, bidets, sex, illicit marriage and…er…ghost stories.

But the big news is that Mistress of My Fate has been shortlisted for the Historical Writers Association Goldsboro Prize for Debut Historical Fiction! The award will be announced on the 20th of September at History in the Court. You can read more about it here:

In the meantime, I will be biting my nails to the nub in anticipation!

  1. Hello Miss Rubenhold,

I am a huge fan of “Mistress of my Fate” and I was wondering if you knew when your other books will be sold in Canada, as they don’t seem to be available in stores and I thought the French Lesson was suppose to be out in May 2015 but I guess that was just for the UK.

    1. Hi Kaitlin,
Thanks for getting in touch. The French Lesson will be published in the UK in March 2016. Due to various issues with my North American publisher a US/Canadian publication date has not yet been determined, however you should be able to buy the French Lesson from a UK distributor when it’s available.

    2. I loved Mistress of Fate and am looking forward to reading The French Lesson. Any timeframe for when I nay be able to purchase it in the USA?
